Public Education Fall Schedule :
These Boating Safety Classes are co-sponsored by Mt. Diablo Unified
School District and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 57.
The classes meet evenings: 7:30 - 9:30pm
at the Pleasant Hill Adult Ed campus,
One Santa Barbara Road, Pleasant Hill

About Boating Safety Wednesdays 9/10, 9/24, 10/01, 10/08
GPS Tuesdays 10/14, 10/21
NAV Tuesdays 10/28, 11/04
OTW classes Saturday, November 8th – departure PYC


About Boating Safety :
Provides the student with a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Certificate ;
having completed the basic boating safety course taught only by this
organization — 8 total hours of classroom training,
Covers boat equipment, operation, navigation, boating laws and
procedures with emphasis on safety. It is a prerequisite to the Saturday
On-the-Water class to review your learning experience.

GPS :
Understand and learn to use marine electronic equipment for safe
navigation on the water .Basics of Geographic Positioning Satellite.
Hand held GPS unit provided to each student for hands on training ;
And, a the class text is yours to keep for future reference.
Specifically tailored to our immediate waterway surroundings.
Prerequisite : Boating Safety.

NAV :
A class in trip planning using inland and coastal charts, tide tables
and Notice to Mariners. Navigation tools provided for each student
each session ; and , a text is available in class.
Prerequisite : Boating Safety.


OTW :
On – the – water exercises to enable you to experience real-life
activity on a boat underway. ; reviewing all safety precautions
appropriate to conditions. Class size limited to 8 per group.
A morning group and an afternoon group are planned .
